4 Tips for staying healthy in a fast paced industry like recruitment

It’s no secret that the recruitment industry is incredibly fast paced. Wether thats working with clients to secure new work or finding candidates fit for a role. The pressure is intense and the stakes are high. So here’s our 4 tips for staying healthy in the recruitment industry;

Get sufficient sleep

Sleep is one of your most powerful tools in life. It’s where we recharge and save information consumed from the previous day. Sleep requirements for the average person are between 7-9hrs per night. This allows our body to properly relax and repair both the brain and the musculoskeletal system. A fully charged mind and body is always going to be more successful than a tired one.

Stay active

Exercise is key to remaining healthy but you don’t always have to think of it as activity that wears you out. Think of it as activity that supplies your brain with the oxygen it needs to ‘warm up the engine’ so to speak. Just 20-40 minutes of elevated heart rate on a morning can supercharge your brains performance for the day ahead. This can be cardiovascular exercise, weight training or even yoga.

Learn how to decompress

Finding your offloading tool is essential to learning how to decompress from your day. If you have spent your day under immense pressure having to source candidates, manage accounts or find new business in an already saturated market, plus the added pressures of other co-workers,  you need to let some of that pressure go by releasing it from your body and mind. This can be done through talking to other people about your day, writing it down on paper or digitally as a daily debrief or even using your manager/mentor to guide you through reflective practice. Learn your best way to decompress and embed this into your daily routine, that way you won’t take any of the negative feelings back into the workplace, only solutions.

Feed your mind

Proper nutrition is a winning recipe for success. Watching the types of foods you consume on a daily basis will help your brain process information more efficiently. This is thanks to the right nutrients triggering appropriate hormone regulation throughout the day. Large amounts of serotonin for example are released after consuming sugar and carbohydrates, this can cause ‘cloudy head’. Try sticking to a leaner diet consisting of the right protein, carbs and fat balance as well as staying away from ultra processed foods. Keep your meal timings as regular or consistent as possible to avoid any unwanted reactions to certain ingredients. For example caffeine consumption later in the day can throw your heart rate up high and give you symptoms of restlessness and anxiety, this is something that is not helpful in an environment where you need to focus.

Those are our 4 top tips for staying healthy in the recruitment industry. This industry requires you to be on the ball as consistently as possible and taking care of your health and wellbeing is the best way to achieve that.
