Dealing with pressure in the recruitment industry
Pressure is a constant in the recruitment industry, it sit’s at the heart of what companies are trying to achieve. Getting the best talent to fit the clients needs on time and on budget. Thats not easy in todays world and when difficulty meets deadline it creates pressure! Dealing with pressure can be difficult If you don’t truly understand how you operate as a person or how your company operates this can go one way or another.
Pressure contributes to stress and when pressure becomes stress its harder to manage if you don’t have the right coping mechanisms in place so thats where we don’t want this to go because pressure is a shorter term, lower impact form of stress. And it can be dealt with fairly easily if you are committed to being consistent in your daily routines and professional development.
Here’s some ways in which you can handle pressure better as an individual;
Get sufficient sleep: sleep will be a huge factor in how your brain deals with pressure throughout the day, so make sure you get at least 7-9 hrs each night so that it has time to relax and recharge the brain.
Feed your mind: Getting the right nutrients into your body will help with hormone regulation and mind processing for a more productive output. Focus on organic ingredients, stay away from sugar and processed foods.
Exercise daily: doing just 20-30 minutes of exercise each day before or after work can increase your capabilities of handling pressure and it can help you wind down too.
Be honest with your relationships: Relationships are a hidden devil when it comes to work and home life, having dishonest relationships can impact your abilities to focus at work so make sure that you are being honest with your relationships both inside and outside of work.
Here’s some ways your company can support the pressure in your environment;
Promote the above: Make it part of your culture to regularly get sufficient sleep, eat well, exercise and promote honest relationships
Provide a flexible working environment: Everyone is different so allowing them to work on their schedules will help them handle pressure better where they feel most comfortable.
Limit workloads: Overworked employees slip from the pressure zone into the stress zone before they eventually enter the burnout zone, so make sure that you regularly review workloads.
Now you have some ways in which you can deal with pressure in the recruitment industry.
Healthy staff = Higher performance.
Happy staff = Higher retention of talent.
Those will have a massive impact on your companies stats and culture. Our body and minds have this innate response to making healthier changes where it adapt’s and gets better, dealing with pressure is all about implementing those changes to our lifestyle in order to trigger that response. The same comes with the workplace, employees adapt better to a more inclusive and flexible environment where they don’t feel micromanaged or untrusted, so make those changes and watch the performances elevate.
